PhD student position

PhD student position in cellular imaging and physiology of oligodendrocyte-neuron interaction Our new research team at the Institute of Neurodegenerative diseases at the University of Bordeaux in France recruits a PhD student starting at the beginning of 2019 for the duration of 3 years. The team aims to understand cellular mechanisms of neuron-oligodendrocyte interaction during development, adulthood and their subsequent alteration in neurodegenerative disease.
We apply a combination of state-of-the-art physiology (wholecell patch-clamp) and functional imaging approaches, complemented by genetic manipulation, molecular biology methods and behavioural analysis in in vitro and in vivo environments.

Suitable candidates have a background in neuroscience or life sciences, but applicants with other complementary skills and specialization (e.g. physics, bioinformatics, bioengineering) possessing scientific curiosity that goes beyond their research topic are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate is highly motivated and has some technical experience in functional calcium imaging or optics, patch-clamp recordings, utilization of viral vectors, matlab or python programming, data analysis and presentation. Participation in shaping a challenging project and contributing to research output of the lab is expected. The day-to-day language in the lab is English.

The University of Bordeaux with the newly formed Neurocampus project constitutes an exciting international and stimulating environment with worldwide recognition in the neuroscience community. Interested candidates are invited to submit a single pdf including motivation letter, CV, names of 2 to 3 referees and a list of publications. Mail further questions and/or your application package to arne.battefeld@u-bordeaux.fr – Dr. Arne Battefeld.
