Recrutement « New Group Leaders » (PDF ici)
The Neurocampus project, fully supported by the University of Bordeaux, CNRS, INSERM and the Aquitaine Regional Government, consist into the extension of Neurocentre Magendie (+ 8 000 m2) and of the construction of a 12 000m2 new building, delivered in 2016, which will host laboratories, animal facilities and the Bordeaux Imaging Center. It also includes an appealing financial mechanism for attracting new world-class group leaders in identified strategic areas that are lacking or underrepresented in Bordeaux.
The main goal of this project is the creation of a campus entirely dedicated to research on the nervous system and its diseases. This campus will gather, in the same place, the best of the current existing forces in Bordeaux and will allow attracting to Bordeaux a consequent number of new teams. Neurocampus will constitute a major international center for fundamental, translational and clinical research. Neurocampus will also promote knowledge and technology transfer towards the scientific community and the industry.
The scientific institutes hosted in the Neurocampus cover the main modern approaches in neuroscience, establishing a continuum ranging from the most fundamental molecular phenomena to the most integrated ones:
The Interdisciplinary Institute for Neuroscience (IINS), headed by Daniel Choquet, uses techniques coming from the physiology, physics and chemistry fields to break the boundaries of research in molecular events which are fundamental to brain activity. IINS also studies basic elements of the neuronal communication and the synapse at various organization and integration levels.
The Neurocentre Magendie, headed by Pier-Vincenzo Piazza, develops its activity at a more integrated level, focusing its efforts on the understanding of the pathophysiology of brain diseases. A large number of pathologies, some of which share common pathophysiological processes, are under investigation, such as addiction, eating disorders, stress related disorders, neuronal degeneration and aging.
The Institute for Neurodegenerative diseases (IMN), headed by Erwan Bézard, focuses more specifically on two brain pathologies: Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. This research centre integrates both fundamental and clinical research to promote and accelerate the transfer of new discoveries towards the clinical practice.
The Bordeaux Imaging Center (BIC) provides services, training and technological innovation in cellular imaging to academic and private scientific communities, mainly in life, health and plant sciences. It is a core facility part of the national and European France-BioImaging and EuroBioImaging Infrastructures.
We are seeking to recruit new Group Leaders at junior or midcareer level.
We offer attractive start-up packages and state-of-the-art laboratories and infrastructures to young group leaders, typically as a first independent position, in order to strengthen in the fields including, but not exclusive, of physical chemistry of molecular assemblies, biosensors, structural biology, neuronal circuits, neurodegenerative diseases, integrated physiology including in vivo imaging, model systems, addiction, stress, traumatic memories, depression, anxiety, computational neuroscience, brain machine interface neuropsychology, primate modeling.
We expect candidates to develop a competitive, independent research program in his/her respective field, local collaboration and integration into the Bordeaux neuroscience community. Applicants should hold a PhD or MD/PhD degree, with a record of outstanding training and exceptional research potential. Applications from abroad are expressly welcome. We strive to increase the proportion of female staff and expressly encourages qualified women to apply.
Interested candidates should submit a complete CV, a description of research interests (achievements and projects, max 5 pages), and 3 support letters independently

The deadline for applications is February 15th, 2016. Preselection of the candidates will occur in spring before onsite interview with an international board.
